Saturday, October 1st - Day 104 Update

Hello again,

Tori's breathing continues to improve as she was on the spontaneous ventilator mode for the majority of the day. She is also maintaining her vitals statistics and coughing only occasionally. Tomorrow we will attempt to remove the ventilator entirely once again.

Guy is also finally back from Europe!! We both spent the afternoon with Tori and she promptly fell asleep as Guy described some of the details of his trip... :-) Sorry Guy... It was actually very nice to see her take a nap on her own without any Valium or Loretab to help her. She still grimaces with pain at times but for the most part she is very calm and aware. We would really like to have her weighed again in the near future. We believe the SMA syndrome is likely still causing her the pain.

The PT guys came around twice today and worked Tori's arms and legs. I was also able to get Tori's new finger separating splints on her arms and hands this morning after she had some valium. Once she woke up she tolerated them quite well and kept them on all day.

Maria and Guy are with Tori tonight and Mark and Julie visited as well. Guy sat by Tori with the computer and created a new Tori News Room , section on her website. It is located in the right hand column of the site.

That is the short report for tonight.

Thank you all once again,

-Tim, Maria, Tori, Whitney and Brendan

Re: Saturday, October 1st

It was with great pleasure that I spent most of Saturday with Tim, Maria and Tori.

When Tim and I first got to the hospital, Tori was sleeping. We sat down and started chatting while looking at her and the football gaming playing on Tori's TV.

After a while Tim asked if we could do some housekeeping on the website and so off we were using his laptop.

Tori was blinking her eyes alternating from the left eye to the right without really focusing. After a few seconds, we look and she is finally staring. I was wearing a face mask because I didn't want to take any chances given I was coming out of a cold (and 20 hours of flight time).

That's when her respiratory technician came and told us that the air she was breathing was filtered coming in and coming out. No point in wearing a mask then.

For a good hour we looked at each other while I told her stories about my travel and the cities I visited. When I mentioned the books I read is when I lost her. He He. She was showing signs of getting tired and didn't require any drugs to take a nice nap in the middle of her afternoon. We sat there, chatting and watching her for a good hour and half while she slept quite soundly.

Tim and I went to join Maria for dinner at PF Chang's. It was nice to see Maria as well of course. They introduced me to the Pray4Tori display at the For Every Body store. I was amazed because it seemed like I knew all the flavors already. Tropical Mango is my favorite.

Tim and Maria ran into our friend Brady who Tim talked to for a while.

After that Maria and I went to visit with Tori again. It was a great day except for one thing. I didn't get to see Whitney. She was having a sleep over at her friend crystal.

So, Tim and Maria gave me a chance to surprise her. They were supposed to pick her up around noon. I asked if I could go and pick her up. It was great to see her. We drove back and jumped in Grandpa's car to have lunch with him and Brendan.

We are now at the hospital with Maria, Whitney, Grandpa, Brendan and Tim.

Thanks,
-Guy
