Wednesday Evening, June 22nd - Email update number three

Below is the content of a general email sent Wednesday evening on June 22nd.

All,

This is another message and update from Tori's father, Tim Schmanski. Today was Tori's MRI day and I wanted to inform everyone of the results. I would also like to state that this information is completely accurate and genuine and was also witnessed by myself personally.

The MRI was taken at 4:00pm today and my wife Maria and I had to wait until 7:00pm to meet with the doctors analyzing the results. We were preparing for the very worst news heading into the meeting and we were also wondering why the doctors were taking so long to meet with us. In the meeting the doctors informed us that the MRI was completely normal which was as astounding to them as it was to us. They also told us the Spectroscopy performed earlier was also normal and this confused them even more. They had originally informed us that Tori's brain damage would be great given the 25-30 minutes of total time her brain had no oxygen. The doctors are now totally perplexed and befuddled with the results and one of them even stated that if she had seen the charts without seeing Tori first she would assume the person could talk and use their hands.

So... All in all this was great news to hear given the worst case scenario it could have been!!

Now, based on todays information, another EEG test to monitor the brain will be performed tomorrow. We will also pursue a secondary opinion from another team of doctors. I have found through this experience that doctors can analyze the data and provide recommendations but cannot dictate an absolute end condition of any patient. They simply provide guidance to parents faced with situations like this so they can determine the direction of treatment or not.

With all of that stated, Tori remains in a very critical situation. Her heart remains strong and her breathing is still unassisted with 40% of oxygen assistance (it used to be 100%). Her lungs are still 'sick' as the doctor calls them but she is improving. I honestly and openly DO NOT want to set everyone's expectations that she will survive or even recover from this tragic accident. I am simply providing the current details on her condition and praying that she will make it through this just like everyone else.

We are all praying and supporting her in so many ways and I am so thankful and astounded again by the sheer numbers of people who know about Tori. It is a great testament to the person she truly is.

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers!!

Thank you again,
Tim, Maria, Tori, Whitney and Brendan
